I was in Dallas TX for a gymnastics meet with my kids and in just seconds my life changed forever.
I was with my kids and friends and we were crossing the street to go watch their teammates in a gymnastics meet and I was hit by a car going 35 mph. The driver was 18 years old and told the police that she was looking at her phone and didn’t see me until I hit her windshield. My daughter was inches away from me and I am so thankful she was not injured.
My injuries were serious; 8 breaks in my tibial plateau, 4 fractures in my pelvis and 3 compression fractures in my back. I now have a plate with screws in my leg and 2 screws in my pelvis. I was in ICU for 5 days, the hospital for 7 and a rehab center for a week before I was finally able to come home to my family in Colorado.
I am so lucky to have survived this tragic incident. It’s been 8 months and I am still recovering. As part of my recovery, I am advocating for Distracted Driving awareness so others don’t have to experience what I have.
