In September of 2019, my precious 19-year-old daughter Carly was walking home with her roommates after visiting friends near her apartment in College Station, Texas. They were doing everything right, walking against traffic, side by side on the grass where a sidewalk was missing, when an impaired driver, speeding and recklessly changing lanes, veered off the road and struck Carly. Her friends narrowly escaped, but Carly was hit with such force that she was thrown through the air, landing yards away. She never regained consciousness.
Carly was a sophomore at Texas A&M, passionate about animals and pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She was deeply loved by everyone who knew her. Carly had a smile that lit up every room, a heart full of kindness, and a gentle, joyful spirit that drew people in. She had a special way of making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Her life was full of promise, compassion, and joy, but it was stolen in an instant by a completely preventable choice.
Our family loved Carly beyond words and misses her every single day.
