Drive the Conversation

The safest ride starts with a conversation.

Getting a driver’s license is an exciting milestone for teens, but learning to drive safely involves more than knowing the rules of the road. It means making responsible decisions about speeding, distractions, passengers, fatigue and other risks that can lead to a crash.

The Drive the Conversation campaign, launched by We Save Lives in partnership with HeyPolo, encourages parents and teens to make safe driving an ongoing conversation—not a one-time lecture before the keys are handed over.

Technology can help families identify risky driving habits, but conversations are what help teens understand their choices and develop safer habits. HeyPolo’s Family Safety Score provides families with information about driving behaviors, including speeding, phone use, harsh acceleration and braking, giving them a practical starting point for discussing what is going well and what needs to change.

Our message is simple: Don’t just tell teens to drive safely. Talk with them about how to do it.

Parents can help by practicing with their teens, setting clear expectations, modeling safe driving, discussing how to handle peer pressure, and making one promise every teen should hear: If you ever feel unsafe driving or riding with someone else, call me. I’ll help you get home safely.

Together, we can help families turn conversations into safer decisions and build driving habits that last a lifetime.

Talk about it. Practice it. Drive safer.
