Remembering Alejandro “Alex” Contreras
Alejandro Joseph Contreras, better known as Alex, was only 30 years old when his life was tragically taken by a reckless drunk driver.
Alex was so much more than the way his life ended. He was a certified dog trainer, a hardworking young man, and someone who was working toward his future as an electrician. He had dreams, goals, and so much more life ahead of him.
On that tragic night, Alex was struck by a drunk driver who fled the scene. The driver not only left Alex behind, but got out of the vehicle, moved his body to the side of the road, and continued driving. Alex deserved compassion, justice, and the chance to keep living the life he was building.
The driver was sentenced to one year in work furlough, but ultimately served only five months due to good behavior.
Alex deserved better. He deserved more time. He deserved to come home. He deserved to grow old, become an electrician, continue working with dogs, and experience all the moments that were stolen from him.
Although his life was taken far too soon, Alex’s memory continues to live on through the people who loved him and through the work being done in his name.
His life mattered.
His dreams mattered.
